NGI at Arendalsuka 2025

This August, NGI will once again participate in Arendalsuka, Norway’s largest political gathering. It is a place where research, politics, business, and civil society come together.

Published 26.06.2025

We’re at Arendalsuka because our research makes a difference – to safety, sustainability and society. It’s an opportunity to highlight NGI’s work, share our knowledge with new audiences, and connect with partners and decision-makers who help bring research into practice.

On Monday, the 11th of August, we’ll have three events:

How long does a bridge last?

We’re hosting this event together with NORCE, where we focus on how new technology gives us earlier warnings, smarter maintenance, and longer-lasting infrastructure.

Morten Saue and Rune Schlandbusch from NORCE will represent NGI in this event. In the panel discussion we have representatives from Vegvesnet, Bane NOR, and TØI (Transportøkonomisk institutt).

So far, we have a representative from Arbeiderpartiet coming, and we hope to get more politicians to join the discussion.

NORCE’s communications manager, Camilla Aadland, and Øydis Castberg will moderate this session.

More megawatts for the money – how can new technology make offshore wind more profitable?

In this event, we’re exploring how Norway can scale up offshore wind efficiently, learning from European frontrunners and applying cutting-edge research and technology to reduce costs and environmental impacts.

So far, representatives from Fornybar Norge and Norsk Industri will join us. We hope to get representatives from Carbon Trust (UK) and RES (Renewable Energy Systems) to join as well. Thomas Langford will represent NGI.

So far, the Storting representative from Venstre, Ola Elvestuen, will join the discussions. We hope to get a few more politicians to join.

Liv Røhnebæk Bjergene and Øydis Castberg will moderate this session.

Møt en forsker: How to get rid of toxic ‘forever chemicals’ in Norway's soil?

This year, we’re trying something new, giving the floor to one of our researchers. So we have asked Hans Peter Arp to give a 20-minute lecture on "forever chemicals," followed by 10 minutes for questions. We hope many people will join this lecture, and we know Hans Peter will mesmerize the audience.

Liv Røhnebæk Bjergene will moderate this session.

No live stream

The events won’t be streamed live, but we’ll tape the sessions and post them on our YouTube channel afterward.
